Molecularly imprinted polymers presenting high adsorption capacity and high specificity toward biomacromolecules such as proteins are of great interest for biotechnologies. Synthetic pathways were developed to obtain Protein Imprinted Polymers (PIP). But recovery of these PIP was difficult, and recuperation process required numerous and time consuming steps. Some PIP were coupled to magnetic nanoparticles, such as maghemite, which often led to many functionalization steps of the nanoparticles surface. We developed in the PHENIX lab a much faster and simpler polymerization method for the synthesis of magnetic protein imprinted polymers with very high adsorption capacities and very strong affinity constants using bulk imprinting of proteins combined with a grafting approach onto maghemite nanoparticles.
